Aerial Photography Insurance

There has been changes recently to the IAA (Irish Aviation Authority) regulations for the flying of multi-rotors in Ireland.

Please click here to download the regulations and refer to page 19 which outlines the legislation concerning the operation of unmanned remotely piloted aircraft systems in Ireland.

If you intend to use the device in a commercial capacity

If you wish to apply for commercial permission, there are 2 permissions required to operate: – an Aerial Work Permission and a separate permission to operate a UAV/RPAS.

To obtain these permissions you are required to do the following:-

  • Submit an Aerial Works Operations Manual;
  • Submit a Manufacturer’s Operations Manual;
  • Submit Certification of having completed a manufacturer’s course or a generic RPAS course;
  • Submit 3rd Party Liability insurance certificate;
  • Complete a demonstration flight for the Authority;
  • Complete a demonstration flight for the Authority;

If you intend to use the device in a private/personal capacity i.e. not for reward or consideration,

you will require a permission to operate a UAV/RPAS.

To obtain this permission you are required to do the following:

  • Submit Certification of having completed a manufacturer’s course or a generic RPAS course;
  • Complete a demonstration flight for the Authority;
  • Pay the appropriate fee €148.
